My friend recently bombarded me with scary statements like " Remain in service and you sure shall remain the sweatshop of the world".
I shall disagree to him on both the points. I don't even need to present my point. His was an alarmist statement (hey do i add the views expressed are the personal views of the author. CEL doesn't associate itself... :D) . But, it led me to think on a tangential line.
Why do all our start-ups are in the services sector? Why can't we think outside the jugaad we rig up to improve services? Can't we develop a new product? Do we always remain the cost-cutting destination? People more knowledgeable and intelligent have brooded on this. I do not know why and why not we are not great guns in products. (Check out Ittiam though.)
I just know unless we get into product development, the alarmists might be true. And please do not make the mistake of overlooking the rural market. Glamor no, but potential yes. Recent developments have made me believe that probably the concrete jungle is not where I would hunt. Visit me to know why.
