BITS is pulsating with a fervor which old timers say is new. Entrepreneurship is in.
Starting up is high on priority lists. I see fellow first year students reading thick tomes on entrepreneurship. To see the intent to chuck out old notions and accept the once taboo E word is inspiring. There are really good ideas and whats more they are actually making the transition from the drawing board to reality.
CDS is one such start up which shows a healthy trend of non-tech start ups. CDS may make use of technology to be competitive but their core competency lies elsewhere. And its a bunch of students barely midway through their graduation! Talk to the CDS guys and the enthusiasm is contagious.
Another thing which we find very heartening is the short time in which the idea transforms into something tangible. Agreed that sometimes an idea needs to be undergo the test of time. But, the faster you move out in the real world, faster you can adapt.
Our experience is that most of these ideas crop up during competitions. Initially, brains are racked just because an entry is to be filed. And then it takes off really well. You look back and it thrills you how an idea from a general late night session in your hostel could go this far.
Look out! We have arrived.
