Turbulent times keep coming to any club or organization and I’ve seen it, lived through such times in both CEL, a club and in my previous company, a business organization. The symptoms of such times invariably is losing people – either to a competitor (which is common and not so bad) or sometimes even to some other irrelevant group (which means something is really going wrong). Fortunately, I was in both sides of the lines – as a crying employer (at CEL) and as a happy employee on the move (at my previous company). This helped me to actually identify the cause of this typical problem – which we hardly understood while facing it at CEL: What on God’s earth should I do to keep them inside and to keep the momentum going?
The answer which I found is the topic I’m writing about – Ownership; a sense of ownership amongst the employees (from now on, employees refer to both employees and students, company refers to both company and club) towards the company they work for. Even if someone blatantly points out how stupid it is to work for the company, the employee should be in a position to argue him out or just laugh at him say “whatever dude” and walk off without having the slightest thought that he could be correct. This – to most of us looks like close to impossible isn’t it? A lot of people who found their ideal employer or at least believes so, would leave you wondering about 2 things – a) what’s wrong with him b) what have they done to brainwash him so much?
The answer to both would be – the company has created with an un-erasable sense of ownership to its employees. Now, what trick do these great companies or successful organizations do to achieve that – may be we should follow suite at CEL! Well if it’s that simple and quick to achieve then it’s we’d see all companies successful and I wouldn’t have chose to write about this on the first place. From what I see (there could be more reasons and better explanation) – it could come with time refining management practices, money (this is the strongest of all reasons) to keep the employees energies high and retain the best, making sure only the best join in – so everyone feels when he/she is staying why not I and hangs around, making the employees accountable for what they do, showering responsibilities, having lots of unique policies or something very characteristic to that company – like dress code, slang/abbreviations internal to the company, politics, stories cooked inside the company etc. To sum it up, it should be like entering another world when you go inside the company and feel like being in a family, look forward to meet them again, a culture far different from outside thriving within the company which is liked by its employees.
Ownership – could you create this to your employees?

Agreed.
Causality, you see. The company culture and ergo, a sense of ownership
We've always taken pride in being a club which has a culture so similar to that in the Corporate world. But, how far can we stretch the comparison?
Monetary benefits - Unthinkable in a club. Atmosphere/environment in terms of peers, infrastructure - very important.
